A Review of South Beach, Florida

When we drive over to South Beach we sometimes stop on Collins Avenue at “Wolfie’s” for a huge, decadent slice of their famous cheesecake. And from here, you’re within walking distance to the great expanse of white powder known as the Beach at South Beach. No, we’re not talking about the diet here where benefits include the fact that it allows snacking, and that eating dessert after dinner is even encouraged. There are plenty of benefits to The South Beach Diet, the best of which is probably that it stops you from feeling hungry – when most diets do the opposite! Another thing that makes it different is that it makes you healthier. Whoa! How did we digress! BUT – - – You may want to go on the South Beach Diet, before you come to South Beach. Nothing but hard bodies here.
South Beach is famously filled with energy, nightlife options, celebrity sightings and beautiful people. If these are the things that would best take you away from your current situation, providing you with the kind of vacation you need to calm you down and loosen you up, there’s no place like South Beach. South Beach is traversed by numerical streets which run east-west, starting with First Street and the largely pedestrianized Lincoln Road (between 16th and 17th). There are three smaller avenues (that do not run the entire length of the beach) in the Collins Park area, named Park, Liberty, and James.
South Beach is known as one of the top entertainment destinations in the world. Throughout the year, it is a preferred getaway spot for the many celebrities from around the world who come to enjoy the beach, sun, and nightlife, in extraordinary style. Who just walked by?
Today South Beach is still rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the world by the Travel Channel – an honor not bestowed on any other beach in the continental United States. The Great Depression inspired the building of a large number of small art deco hotels around the Collins Avenue and Ocean Boulevard district.
The hotel is located among South Beach’s internationally famed entertainment and award winning restaurants, making it a top location in South Beach Hotels. The Carlton South Beach Hotel represents one of the final chapters in the story of South Beach’s transformation from old world Deco to world-class resort destination, fueled in large part by the restoration of the historic Art Deco South Beach Hotels . The hotel staff was friendly, but our toilet did not work the entire weekend and we had to go to the bathroom in the lobby most of the time. Collins Avenue beautifully displays a variety of historic Art Deco hotels and landmarks. Many of the hotels situated on Collins Avenue feature direct beach access.
Stay in one of the luxury hotel rooms with private balconies, jacuzzies, or in one of the Lake Erie Cottages. Don’t forget about hotels in the off season; plan your next romantic getaway weekend. Beginning in the late 1970s through the 80s, South Beach was used as a retirement community with most of its ocean-front hotels and apartment buildings filled with elderly people living on small, fixed incomes. This period also saw the introduction of the “cocaine cowboys,” drug dealers who used the area as a base for their illicit drug activities.
Stay in close proximity to the famous Miami beaches or the popular South Beach shopping hotspot better known as Lincoln Road.
